The RenderX reads Rhino .3dm files directly. A few habits in Rhino make the conversion fast and the result look its best.
The basics
| File type | Rhino .3dm |
| Size | Up to 150 MB |
| Units | Millimetres |
| Content | One ring, nothing else |
Units
Model in millimetres, as jewellers usually do. The viewer frames the ring automatically, so the absolute size doesn't change how it looks, but millimetres keep the proportions and the camera distances right.
One ring per file
Hide or delete everything that isn't part of the piece before you save: construction curves, dimensions, display stands, other sizes, and spare stones parked off to the side. Objects on hidden layers are left out; anything visible becomes part of the 3D model.
Stones as separate objects
The converter decides, part by part, what is metal and what is stone. It works best when:
- each stone is its own object (a closed polysurface or mesh), not joined to the metal;
- stones sit on a layer (or have an object name) that says what they are, such as
Stones,DiamondsorGems; - metal parts sit on a layer such as
Metal,Gold,ShankorProngs.
Names win; without them, the converter judges by shape (small, closed, compact parts look like stones).
If the converter isn't sure about a part, the app asks you: the Parts list on the product page lets you set each one to Metal or Stone.
Every stone is shown as a white diamond, and the metal is shown in yellow gold, rose gold and platinum. You don't need to assign materials in Rhino.
Clean geometry
- Close open polysurfaces where you can; gaps show as holes.
- Shopify Files accepts at most 20 MB per file. If the 3D model is larger, your browser simplifies the metal mesh to fit; stones are never simplified. The app tells you when this happens. Very dense meshes (from sculpting or scanning) are the usual cause.
